Save The Little Fugitives... With A Song!

Three generations of Greek-Canadians sing in the Children’s musical mystery THE LITTLE FUGITIVES AND THE HOUSE IN THE FOREST

Montreal, September 28, 2008 - THE LITTLE FUGITIVES AND THE HOUSE IN THE FOREST is a unique cross-Atlantic cultural collaboration of Athens, Montreal and Laval. Chatzilakos Editions (Athens) along with Chroma Musika (Montreal) will circulate the Children’s book accompanied by the CD which will include the musical.

THE LITTLE FUGITIVES AND THE HOUSE IN THE FOREST written by George Pol. Papadakis and set to music by Chrysanthos Mouzakitis transports us to a haunted house that traps souls. Four children take off against their parents’ wishes and get trapped in it as they try to explore it.

A chorus of 38 children of Hellenic origin from 11 different schools of Montreal and Laval participated in this production. Most of them come from the Socrates Schools of the Hellenic Community of Montreal and were chosen by auditions. These kids not only got an opportunity to sing in Greek and participate in a professional production with a symphonic orchestra but also to explore modern Greek literature and music. Apart from the children a chorus of 26 adults joined the little choristers. Parents, veteran choristers and young Greek-Canadians auditioned and joined their voices with the kids.

Under the vocal guidance of soloist-soprano Maria Diamantis and under the direction of tenor soloist Dimitris Ilias, the chorus and soloists recorded the musical in Montreal inside Oscar Peterson Concert Hall with Dr. Mark Corwin of Concordia University Music Department as technical supervisor. The Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra accompanies the performers while in Athens illustrator Niki Leonidou gave life to the story with her colourful illustrations. Veteran Athenian actor Christos Tsagas narrates with the warmth of a grandfather reading a Halloween tale to his grandchildren.

The extraordinary part of this production is that the mayors of Athens, Montreal and Laval with the collaboration of the General Consulate of Greece in Montreal put this Greek-Canadian project under their auspices and now the Little Fugitives have found refuge in the two City Halls with launches happening on the 19th of October inside the City Hall of Montreal and on the 21st of October inside the Laval City Hall.

Apart from the composer, editor and writer, famous Greek actor Spiros Bibilas and violinist Theodore Mouzakitis are flying in from Greece to help launch the project.

The Book/CD will circulate in Greece and North America in mid October.
